How to Play Mines: Tiles, Odds and Cash-Out
Updated 2026-08-31
Mines is played on a grid of hidden tiles. Before the round you choose how many mines to bury in it. Each safe tile you reveal raises your multiplier; hitting a mine ends the round and loses the bet. You can cash out after any safe tile.
Setting up a round
Choose your bet, then choose the mine count. More mines means fewer safe tiles and a much steeper multiplier curve.
Mine positions are drawn when the round starts, not as you click, so the order in which you open tiles does not change the risk of any individual click.
The displayed multiplier already accounts for the house edge, so it is slightly below the 'fair' odds of the remaining tiles.
How the odds actually work
On a 25-tile grid with 3 mines, your first click is safe 22 times out of 25 (88%). The second click is safe 21 out of 24, and so on — every safe tile makes the next one slightly more dangerous.
That is why the multiplier accelerates: you are being paid for a chain of successes whose combined probability falls quickly.
With 1 mine you can clear most of the board for a small return. With 15 mines a handful of tiles can pay triple digits, but the chance of getting there is tiny.
Picking a tile target
Decide the number of tiles you will open before the round starts, and cash out there regardless of how the round feels.
Consistent short targets (3–5 tiles at low mine counts) produce frequent small wins; long targets produce rare large ones.
There is no 'hot' or 'cold' pattern in tile positions. Any preferred layout — corners, diagonals, edges — has identical odds.
Common mistakes
Chasing 'one more tile' after reaching your target is the single most expensive habit in mines.
Raising the mine count after a loss to win it all back turns a small deficit into a large one at high speed.
Ignoring the cash-out button on multi-tile clears: the multiplier is only real once it is banked.
Frequently asked questions
- Are mines placed before or after I click?
- Before. Positions are fixed when the round starts, so your click order does not change the outcome.
- How many mines should I use?
- Three to five mines is the usual balance between hit rate and payout. Higher counts are for players who want rare, large multipliers.
- Can I cash out after one tile?
- Yes. Any revealed safe tile lets you cash out at the shown multiplier.
